Dear Home-Schooling Doctor,
It turns out that my main problem has been rapid transit! Because food was running through my GI tract too quickly, any and all fruits, veggies and nuts were causing me major problems (not constipation, they gave me D).
Now that I'm on medication to slow my system down, (I guess my Dr. did know a thing or 2) I'm trying to discern which FODMAPs really affect me. I know for sure that fructose and polyols are problematic. I'm guessing that lactose will be an issue, but I still need to challenge it, along with the fructans and galactans.
I'm just taking it easy for now, reveling in the fact that my food options have considerably widened since Thanksgiving. One really exciting development is that I can drink coffee again, with no issues. That makes me so happy. :)
And because you've asked, I have done a few lactulose-hydrogen breath tests in the past, they always showed an overgrowth of bacteria. I don't seem to have a problem with Candida. I have taken a stool test in the past, but I can't remember what it showed exactly.
The book by Patsy Catsos called IBS Free at Last really make a difference in my life, and of course, BTVC was the one that sent me down this road in the first place. I am SO THANKFUL to know and understand what to eat and what to avoid. This knowledge has made all the difference. If you are still working through your symptoms, I wish you the best of luck.

Sounds like you know what needs to be done for you when it needs to be done...What are your main FODMAP symptoms? Is it bloating? Did you do the breath test? The GI MD I saw didn't think it'd offer any information as chronic constipation was my issue, not diarrhea. I don't know whether to agree with her or not...empiric stories on the internet say maybe otherwise. Do you think Candida has any role? Did you do a Metametrix stool study? I'm curious as fruit/certain veggies seems to cause abd. distention for me. Don't mind limiting fruit, but I love my veggies! Just sorting through all this. Not asking for medical advice, I'm getting enough of that, LOL
